As experts in Xero, we’re always keeping an eye on the development work that our friends at Xero HQ are performing, and putting in requests on our clients’ behalf for enhancements they’d like to see in the software. So we thought it would be a good idea to pull together the new features that have appeared within Xero over the last 12 months that are likely to be of the most use to our clients…
Now a fully functioning purchase order system; Xero can match up your purchase orders with supplier invoices, and also allows you to see any purchase orders which have not yet been fulfilled. Next stop is to link this end of the supply chain in to inventory management which is promised for 2015
When you pay your suppliers, let them know by sending them a remittance advice by email, or print one off and post. You can apply different company brandings to your remittance advice – useful if you run your business under several different brands / divisions.
Direct bank feeds for NatWest / RBS accounts
It has taken Xero AGES to get banks other than HSBC into direct agreement with Xero to supply daily bank feeds into the software (for other banks the only way to automatically link to your account remains via Yodlee which is a third party outfit and hence we do not recommend this path). Come on Xero – please get other UK banks signed up asap!
In the last few months, Xero has implemented new VAT codes to cope with EC purchases of goods and reverse charge services (i.e. automatically populating figures in the correct boxes on the VAT return without a work-around being necessary) plus a new EC Sales List report. This is a major relief for us as it now means so many more of our clients’ VAT returns can be submitted to HMRC direct from Xero.
Batch Deposit for Sales Invoices
When a customer pays off several of your invoices with a single payment, you can now do a batch deposit within the Sales module rather than having to enter each sales invoice individually to mark it as paid. A huge time-saver for some of our clients!
Archive tracking categories
Particularly useful for those clients using tracking to monitor job / project costs. Archiving tracking codes that you’ve finished with means those codes no longer appear in the drop-down list making this much more manageable!
Next major developments are said to be Quotes, Inventory and enhanced Reporting. We’ll keep you posted!
